Think about the kinds of communities we have seen arising in other parts of the world.

• What communities form in the Americas that are similar to those elsewhere?
• What community types are missing? What community types form that are unique to the Americas?

Think about the size of communities that form.

• What allows for the expansion of communities into empires?
• What limits some communities but not others?

Think about the kinds of evidence we've used to discover community types, structures, and functions in other parts of the world.

• What evidence is there for the communities you have described above?
• What other kinds of evidence could we (should we!) be looking for to better understand community formation in these empires?
