In the first class of the semester, you looked at a set of chess pieces and answered the question, what does this artifact tell you about the people who made it? You may want to use the Chat Log feature to find and review that chat.

For this essay:

  1. First, choose one or two pieces of art from any of the periods we have studied. You may choose from the textbook, from past chat logs, or you may find your own artwork if you include a link or image.
  2. Write an essay to answer the question: How does the art work you've chosen serve as a historical source? That is, what does it tell you about the people who made it? Consider the concept of aesthetics (introduced on page 265 of your textbook). If you've chosen two artworks, compare and contrast them.
