Think about what made it possible to transport so many people against their will and then to keep them at hard labor, so hard that many died within a few years.

Look at the map on page 472 that shows the many places where slaves rebelled. Imagine being a slave and joining in such a rebellion. The slaves outnumber the masters, so imagine you have gotten together and caused the masters to flee. What do you do next?
