This period should be somewhat familiar from other courses you have taken, as well as from literature, movies, and music. Bringing to bear what you learned from the text, what you already know, and what you might be inspired to research on your own, prepare and submit some notes for the following discussion questions. Along with your notes, include any questions that you have!

• How did Native American communities change during the era of European colonization from 1500-1800?
• Where do we see examples of New World communities extending back to the Old World, or vice versa?
• How and why did colonial communities differ in North America vs. South America? (Remember to consider the slave communities!)
• Where do we see centralization or decentralization?
