Bringing to bear what you learned from the text, what you already know, and what you might be inspired to research on your own, examine the communities you see in the history of the Ottoman and Hapsburg empires before 1650, and submit your notes on the following questions.
Where do you find conflict arising along political, religious, or social divides? Where do you see boundaries between communities or identities being crossed or challenged? Where and how do you see boundaries between communities being reasserted or enforced? How do different communities situate themselves in relation to the past or the future?
