This period should be somewhat familiar from other courses you have taken, as well as literature, movies, and music. Bringing to bear what you learned from the text, what you already know, and what you might be inspired to research on your own, prepare and submit some notes for the following discussion questions:

Resources
In the "Ottoman-Habsburg Struggle," how did the Ottomans and the Habsburgs wield their resources in war and in peace? What different strategies, institutions, and innovations did the Ottomans and the Habsburgs introduce to manage resources or to compensate when resources were lacking? Think about immaterial resources as well as:

• Caravel ships, new trade routes, and travel
• Precious metals and coinage
• Cash crops (spices, coffee, silk, etc.)
• Guns and cannons
• Colonies, cities, and building projects

Along with your notes, be sure to include any questions that you have.
