Chapter 18 focuses on colonialism and Indigenous responses to colonialism from 1500-1800. In our fourth class, we will discuss Native American peoples beyond the context of the colonies. Chapter 18 mentions the North American Iroquois Confederation of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes; their enemies the Huron; the Apaches; their enemies the Comanches; the Sioux; and the Cheyenne; as well as the South American Mapuche and Ashaninka and the peoples of the Amazon, Orinoco, and Maracaibo rain forests. Of peoples who were colonized by this period, besides the Aztec, Inca, and Maya people we read about in previous chapters, the Taino and Tupi people are also mentioned.

Choose two of these peoples (but not the Aztec, Inca, and Maya), or any other North or South American peoples from this time period, to compare in a brief report for your chat prep essay. Discuss our usual topics of resources, community, and power, including:
