Required Text

You will need to download the second edition of the (free) PDF version of Starting from Scratch by Jeremy Scott from the Scholars Online Moodle after you enroll. Follow the instructions on the SCRATCH Course homepage.

We will also be viewing screen casts. You can download these as a zip file to your computer from the Moodle as well. You may wish to view the screencasts at YouTube to avoid taking up space on your computer. You can find these by going to YouTube.com and searching for "Starting from SCRATCH XXX" where XXX is the name of the screencast, for example "catwalk". The search "Starting from SCRATCH Catwalk" should get you the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8ip5nGlwLQ.

Required Software

We will be using SCRATCH at the MIT Website for this course. This has many advantages, because

• students can work on their projects with any computer from anywhere, just by logging into their account on the SCRATCH platform.
• students can share projects and source code easily with the teacher to get help if they get stuck, and with each other to collaborate on projects.

All you will need for the course is:

• a recent version of a common browser. The latest versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari should all work. The site will work on desktops, laptops, and tablets. We do not recommend trying to run SCRATCH on your cell phone.
