Hertzsprung-Russell Stellar Evolution Lab

Goal: To plot HR diagrams and understand how to read them.

Simulation

Use the set of simulators at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln lab to conduct this "observation".

Materials and tools

• Open the NAAP lab in your UNL program set and (if you have not done so already) review the materials on:
  • Spectral Classification of Stars
  • Luminosity
  • The Hertzsprung- Russell Diagram

Procedure

1. Run the H-R Diagram Explorer from the NAAP Lab.
2. Follow the instructions in the Student Guide and use the HR Diagram Explorer to become familiar with the HR diagram and answer the Student Guide questions.

Report

Turn in your completed Student Guide when you have answered all the questions.
