The transmission of a work is the path of translations and commentaries that took it from its original author and language to a new translation and audience. Briefly describe the steps (translations, languages, commentaries) a work like Ptolemy's Almagest might undergo before it reached an eager student at the University of Paris. What kinds of changes might occur to the text in the transmission process?
