Required Texts
For the 2010-2011 academic year, we will use Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity 7/e (Enhanced Version) (John C. Kotz, Paul Treichel, Gabriela C. Weaver - ISBN: 0495390291), which is an introductory college level chemistry text for science majors used in a number of high school AP programs. It has a well-supported publisher's website that we will refer to for supplemental materials. Be sure that you purchase the seventh edition, with access to ChemistryNow. Earlier or later editions will not be acceptable; besides having different material in some of the chapters, most of the end-of-chapter exercises change for each edition.
Students who are taking the AP/lab option must complete a series of labs. They will need to purchase Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments (Robert Bruce Thompson - ISBN: 0596514921), as well as lab equipment and chemicals sufficient to perform a set of AP Chemistry-course directed labs.
You may order all texts through Scholars Online Bookstore.
In addition to the textbook itself, Brooks Cole publishes a plethora of student aids including a full study guide, student solutions to some of the textbook exercises, and a pocket study guide, any of which you may find useful; none of which are required for thecourse.
This course is offered through Scholars Online, a non-profit organization supporting classical Christian education through Internet-based courses. Permission to copy course content (lessons and labs) for personal study is granted to students currently or formerly enrolled in the course through Scholars Online. Reproduction for any other purpose, without the express written consent of the author, is prohibited.
